If you’re reading this, you already know office managers shine in a new way just about every day. In the third year of our annual Spa Day giveaway drawing, we saw a huge increase in participation and along with it, an even clearer idea of why office managers are so valued – and why they LOVE their chosen career. More than ever, we are dazzled by all the ways they help their practices light up their communities.
After two years of “smooth operations” taking the top spot in our survey, this year we saw a shift toward compassion. The most frequent reason office managers were nominated this year was their warm, engaging, giving and caring personalities. Practices couldn’t say enough about the way they support their patients, staff and communities.
That doesn’t mean we didn’t read a lot about the excellent and complex work they do to keep their practices running smoothly – we did! Efficiency in scheduling, being a “brilliant problem solver” and having an “in-depth knowledge of insurance companies” topped the list of the glowing compliments lavished on these amazing team members. In other words, they really know what they’re doing!
And don’t we all love working with people who love their jobs? We once again asked office managers what it is about their day-to-day that gives them that glow. “Everything!” was once again a very popular answer, along with “my team,” “the patients,” and growing as a leader. Office managers really appreciate the “family” atmosphere at their practices – and we can’t help observing that they are often the ones who best contribute to that culture of caring.
Another common element in all three years of our survey: these front-of-house superstars love a challenge. Resolving complex insurance issues, putting patients at ease (about both receiving dental care and being able to pay for it!) and even coming in early, staying late, or making an unexpected weekend appearance contribute to the sense of pride, accomplishment and professionalism that helps an office manager love what they do.
What rings true in every comment is the care. It’s why their practices love them, and it’s what gives them the sense of purpose that keeps them coming in with those “megawatt smiles” day after day, year after year. Office managers love helping others.
We’ve always known this contest had to be a random drawing. It just isn’t possible to choose a most deserving winner. A mom of seven who routinely works overtime? A beacon of light and love who’s been there for almost 40 years? Someone weathering a personal crisis but still giving 100% every minute of the day? They’re ALL incredible and we are honored to have read all the heartfelt responses.
