To drive workflow efficiencies and diagnostic confidence, today’s dental practices are increasingly turning to digital imaging solutions. Managing multiple systems from multiple vendors can be a drain on resources and time, as well as an added layer of complexity.
Which is exactly why so many doctors turn to DEXIS. With DEXIS, doctors have the all-in-one, AI-powered digital platform they need to streamline their practices from diagnosis to delivery. Doctors rely on DEXIS for everything from 2D and 3D imaging to intraoral scanning, diagnostics, and treatment planning, with seamless software to enhance productivity and enable confident, predictable patient care.
“Having all my technology integrated in one place is a game-changer,” says Dr. Lupe Poussin, a long-time DEXIS user and owner of Poussin Dental in Westfield, NJ. “It saves time, reduces errors, and improves the overall quality of care we provide.”
In order to bring patients the very best care and differentiate their practices, doctors want solutions that continue to offer new advancements and innovations. With its latest wave of enhancements for cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) technology, DEXIS empowers doctors and their teams to improve their workflows, enhance visibility, and simplify their path to more specialized and successful diagnosis and treatments.
Expanding the Possibilities with the OP 3D EX and OP 3D LX
Built for doctors looking to expand their capabilities in 3D imaging, the DEXIS ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH OP 3D EX and ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH OP 3D LX have become an integral part of the digital practice. With flexible field of view (FOV) options, short scan times, multimodal versatility, image-enhancing innovations, and an easy-to-use interface, the OP 3D EX and OP 3D LX expand the possibilities for practices who want to offer a wider range of services for patients.
“I feel like I have an ace in the hole,” explains Dr. Nicholas Varney, owner of Varney Dental in Springfield, IL. “I don’t have to refer as often to get clarity because the OP 3D EX has extended my diagnostic capabilities, and I have real diagnostic confidence. If I take a scan I’ll know, more than likely, what’s going on in your mouth.”
For practices ready to take visibility and efficiency to the next level, the latest enhancements to OP 3D EX and OP 3D LX deliver significant improvements that elevate patient care.

Automatic Dose Control
With the new Automatic Dose Control (ADC) feature included as part of the software, OP 3D LX users can now capture high-quality images by automatically measuring each patient’s anatomy and instantly adjusting exposure levels to achieve optimal balance of image quality.
For example, ADC adjusts the radiation dose for younger patients with thinner cortical bone to capture a phenomenal image in the first scout shot. For older patients with thicker cortical plates, ADC increases the dose to maintain the same image quality. These intelligent adjustments happen without the need for manual intervention.
Early adopters praise ADC for improving image quality and clarity. “It’s like we’ve suddenly put on glasses when we’re looking at scans,” says Dr. Andrew Stiles, owner of Coral Surgery in Coral Springs, FL. “There’s more predictable clarity, leading to more confident diagnosis and treatment planning, and greater comfort among patients and staff regarding radiation use.”
Improving Workflows with Flexibility, Control, and Time Savings
Along with ADC, the OP 3D systems include a host of additional enhancements designed to help doctors and teams work smarter while also providing clinicians more options for added control, flexibility, and versatility. These new features include HD mode, now available with the standard panoramic program. HD mode quickly scans in 15 seconds while capturing sharper images with reduced noise, giving enhanced visibility into patients’ oral structures. Users have the flexibility to choose between standard mode or HD mode when they need higher definition for a more complex diagnosis or hard-to-see conditions.
Another new enhancement available on both the OP 3D EX and OP 3D LX is the ergonomically designed handheld exposure switch. Built with clinician feedback in mind, this switch includes a light indicator that shows the device status, allowing users to instantly see whether the device is ready or in the process of exposing—eliminating any second guessing. Additionally, clinicians can adjust the sound on both the device and the remote control to meet individual preferences.
Last but not least, doctors who love the patented ORTHOceph™ Plus feature will be happy to learn that the OP 3D EX is now completely upgradeable to cephalometric imaging. With rapid scan times and adjustable field sizes that capture quality images with minimal dose, this feature lets clinicians use the OP 3D EX to access lateral views of the patient’s head along with both soft and hard tissue. This is especially helpful for practices looking to expand into specialty areas, including orthodontics and maxillofacial surgery.
Simplified Implant Planning with DTX Studio™ Clinic Updates
Along with the OP 3D EX and the OP 3D LX, the award-winning DTX Studio Clinic software suite has also introduced powerful new features that support practice productivity and growth. The software at the core of the OP 3D systems, DTX Studio Clinic, saves doctors and their teams countless hours by automating manual tasks with intelligent AI-powered tools for each step of the digital workflow. Practices rely on DTX Studio Clinic as their centralized source for image storage, diagnostics, and treatment planning, freeing clinicians to focus on patient care.
“I’ve come to rely on DTX Studio Clinic as a [kind of] virtual assistant,” says Dr. Joe Mehranfar, DMD, ABOI/ID, owner of Aria Dental Implant Center. “The intelligent recognition, positioning and rotating features for my 2D radiographs save me significant time and effort, which lets me focus on diagnosing and treating my patients and create a stunning presentation chairside to share.”
DTX Studio Clinic software updates now equip practices with added tools to support simplified implants that can be performed in-house. Plan an implant treatment and create an automated surgical template in under three minutes, without leaving the patient’s side. This helps build trust and case acceptance with the patient, who can see and visualize what the doctor is planning step by step.
The surgical template helps give users added confidence, knowing that they are extracting the right tooth in the right spot. Initial implant positioning and placement becomes easier with the new automated Assisted Implant Planning module. To better see the whole patient picture during the implant planning process, a new Face Scan tool integrates facial scans with 3D X-rays.
To further simplify and guide the implant process, users can also use the updated DTX Studio Clinic software to generate a full surgical report, including assembly instructions. Now doctors have the choice to order or print in-house for same-day surgery with exportable STL files, so patients don’t have to leave the office without an implant. Offering a library of over 29 implant brand families along with abutments, sleeves, and anchor pins, practices have all they need to support successful implant procedures in their own operatories, without having to send patients elsewhere.
