On Monday, January 23, severe weather again ravaged parts of Alabama, including the greater Birmingham area – an area hit hard by tornadoes last spring and still in recovery mode. Birmingham Branch Manager Matt Schweikher reports that this most recent round of storms spared practices in his territory.
Matt and his team are being honored in the “Top Dental Industry People of 2011” special feature in the January issue of Proofs for their efforts in helping practices damaged by the tornado outbreak in April get back to treating patients. You’ll see what prompted this selection through Matt’s firsthand accounts of the devastation and response. The branch was pitching in to help doctors as soon as one day after the storms. One of the first things they talked about was how to get practices running again. “They were trying to figure out what they could do to help their patients who had temporaries and bridges because they knew their patients were depending on them,” Matt said. Matt and his team are quick to deflect any credit for the role they have played in recovery efforts. “Everyone is helping everyone in Alabama,” he said, “and help will be needed for some quite some time.”
