If navigating options for teeth whitening is making you dizzy instead of dazzled, you’re not alone. The options are endless, especially with so many new over-the-counter (OTC) teeth whitening products on the market.

But teeth whitening is not black and white, and it might not be the ultimate treatment for all types of tooth discoloration. Why? For starters, the level of whitening that is achievable depends on the tooth stains: extrinsic tooth stains (yellowish surface stains on the outer enamel layer) and intrinsic tooth stains (grayish, permanent stains in deeper tooth structure). Whitening safely and effectively removes extrinsic stains and whitens teeth, with results lasting for 6 to 12 months. Intrinsic stains need more intensive, permanent cosmetic dental treatments, such as bonding or veneers, to ultimately achieve the desired level of whiteness.

Professional teeth whitening options are available in a variety of peroxide concentration levels and treatment times. But unlike the one-size-fits-all OTC teeth whitening products, professional treatments are specifically customized for each patient to ensure they get the results that they want.

With so many options available, you can offer your patients the precise whitening treatment that will work best for them, such as in-office whitening in an hour, take-home teeth whitening kits to fit any schedule, and teeth whitening touch-up pens for after treatment.

Here’s what you need to know about each:

  • Pre-filled disposable whitening trays, like Venus White Ultra, offer a convenient entry-level whitening option for visibly whiter teeth in just three days – with no chair time!
  • High-performance whitening for custom trays, such as Venus White Pro, take a patient’s smile up to 8.4 shades whiter with virtually no sensitivity.
  • In-office whitening with Venus White Max can be done in three or four 15-minute treatments with 38% hydrogen peroxide gel. The syringe-to-syringe mixing chemically activates the product, ensuring a thorough mix and maximum freshness.

With teeth whitening one of the fastest-growing and easiest cosmetic services to offer, consider adding it to your list of services to grow your practice and give your patients something more to smile about.

I had no idea that there were different dental procedures for teeth whitening. I like the sound of the first option with the disposable whitening trays. Mostly because there isn’t any chair time. Thanks for this information, I feel a lot better knowing which option I want now!

For my best friend’s birthday, she is asking to get a teeth whitening appointment with a professional. I like that professional treatments ensure that results are aligned with the patient’s like it was mentioned in the article. She deserves the best treatment for her birthday.
