Is your office using Post Procedure Notes? If you are wondering what they are or why you would, this post is for you! Using Post Procedure Notes will not only save you time, it will also guarantee a note gets entered into every patient’s chart, for every procedure.

The Post Procedure Notes is a fabulous feature that generates system notes, based on services. For example, if you were to prep a crown (D2740) and a Post Procedure Note is attached to the service, the note is automatically generated and will appear in the patient’s note history and in the Post Procedure Notes window. Hint: To view the Post Procedure Notes window, select the icon from the clinical toolbar –or go to Activities > Post Procedure Notes from the clinical window. From here, you can view, edit, print and verify the note. The note will automatically appear when the service code is either walked out or marked ‘post to walkout’ in the chart or treatment plan.

Here are the simple steps to creating and attaching Post Procedure Notes:

Only Auto Notes are available for Post Procedure Notes so if you are already using Auto Notes, great! You are halfway there! If not, you will need to begin by creating Auto Notes. If you need help getting started, you can find a great eSupport webinar on FAQ 11876. Your Auto Notes will be available from the Post Procedure Notes section of the edit service code window.

Next, you will need to link your Post Procedure Notes to Service Codes. From the clinical window you will go to Lists > Services and start editing each code you wish to attach a note to. Once you have the edit service code window opened, click the Post Proc button and start adding your Auto Notes.

When service codes are linked with a Post Procedure Note and processed through a walkout, they generate the unverified Post Procedure Note listing for your providers. Review this list at your convenience to verify the note or add any additional comments to it. Keeping all unverified notes in one location makes it super convenient for your providers to just click one button and see all of their patient notes for the day. The notes in this window can be sorted by date, user or patient name. For more information on managing your Post Procedure Notes, see the instructions on FAQ 9586. As always, feel free to call one of our outstanding support specialists if you need additional assistance at 800.475.5036.

I hope this post has encouraged you to start using the Post Procedure Notes window, if you weren’t already. If you are an Eaglesoft user who has been taking advantage of this feature, we’d love to hear from you! Please comment below and let us know how this time-saving feature works in your practice.
