Whether it’s a dental practice trying to market a new service or a puppy doing something amazing (OK, more likely the puppy), we have all encountered videos with poor lighting online. Ensuring that your video has the appropriate amount of light is an essential step to creating a video worth watching.

It sounds simple, but in the heat of the video-creation moment, it can be easy to forget to check the lighting. Advanced cameras and the professionals who use them have tried and true methods of measuring and adjusting to light. But you’d be surprised at the adaptability a smartphone has to different lighting levels. The key is to simply consider where the light is coming from and how your subject looks through your screen or viewfinder.
